Athletic Updates

As most of you have probably heard the MSHSL Board of Directors met on August 4th and made some important decisions due to Covid-19.

Cross Country will begin practice on August 17 and will have their season due to the fact that there is no contact and for the most part social distancing can take place in that sport.  The season will be reduced by approximately 20 percent in length and 30 percent in events.  The cross country schedule that is posted on the school website will be changing and should be considered tentative.

Volleyball will be moved to the spring with a season running from March 15 – May 15.  Their season will be reduced by approximately 20 percent in length and 30 percent in events.  At this time, no invitational tournaments will be allowed.  It is unsure what their “culminating event” will look like at the end of the season.

Football will also be moved to the spring with a season running from March 15 – May 15.  The football season will consist of a 6 game schedule.  They will have some type of playoffs at the end of the season but that format has not yet been determined.

With volleyball and football being moved to the spring the traditional spring sport seasons will run from May 15 – July 15.

Volleyball, football and the spring sports that were cancelled in 2020 will be allowed to practice throughout the fall season.  At this time we are unsure of any practice schedules since this news just came out yesterday.

We are also unsure how this will affect lower level teams.  We are not sure whether or not they will practice in the fall and whether or not they will play during the spring seasons.

Baseline concussion testing that was scheduled for August 12 has been cancelled.

The fall sports meeting that was scheduled for August 12 has also been cancelled.
