GMHS CLAY TARGET LEAGUE 2021

If your daughter or son is in grades 6 - 12 and is interested in joining the Clay Target League (CTL) team, please read on.

Mark your calendar, there'll be a team kickoff meeting for parents and students on March 6th at 10:00 in the Legacy Gym.  The purpose of this meeting will be to inform families of CTL details, answer any questions, and start the registration process for those that want to participate.  Attending the meeting is not a commitment to join the team, we need that commitment and all registration done by March 19.

Participation in CTL should not affect your ability to be in other extra-curricular activities.

Minnesota expects to have over 13,000 students participating in CTL this year.  The Minnesota State High School League now partners with the MN CTL and recognizes clay target shooting as a sport.  Girls and boys will have the ability to letter in the sport, be included in the school yearbook, and compete in a tournament to become state and national champions.

Student eligibility requirements include :
Must be in grades 6 through 12, AND
Must have a valid Minnesota Firearms Safety Certificate, AND
Must meet all GMHS extra-curricular activity eligibility requirements.

Certified Firearms Safety Instructors Greg Lamp, Rodger German and others will coach the team again this year.

Cost to participate will be $115, which covers the cost of shells and targets for all required rounds of shooting.  Extra practice rounds or participation in optional tournaments will be available at extra cost, but are not required.

Typical required equipment will include a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun in reliable condition, a shell bag or shooting vest, as well as hearing and eye protection.  Some of this equipment will be available for loan through the gun club.

The League will run two days a week from April 4 through May 23 and will require about two hours to complete the week's event.  Years past, we've run the League on Sunday afternoons and Thursday evenings, and this has worked well.  All required shooting will take place at the Grand Meadow Gun Club just east of town. Participants will be responsible for transportation to shooting events.  COVID guidelines will be followed at all times.  At no time will participation in this sport alter current policy regarding firearms on school property!

If you have questions, please give Greg Lamp a call at 754-5908 or email greglamp77@gmail.com.
