Grand Meadow Public School is partnering with the Southeast Service Coop to introduce Althing Health Service. With SSC and Althing, Grand Meadow Public School is taking our commitment to student health and equal access to vital services to the next level. Aim #3 of the Vision and Mission of the school district is Mental Health Education. This partnership with Althing will offer an option to work with an agency to assist students. This service is not required or mandatory, but an option for students and families to receive services.
The purpose of this effort is to identify and treat depression, prevent alcohol, marijuana or other drug use and provide needed services for identified use of alcohol and substances. The SBIRT (Screening for Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) program reinforces health decisions and addresses concerns about substance use to improve health, safety, and success in school. Althing will use a validated screening tool that is specifically designed for adolescents. Students who are not using substances will have their healthy choices reinforced and will be encouraged to continue on this path.
- What your child shares during the screener is confidential and will not be shared with any other person without prior written consent of the student, parent, or guardian, except in cases of immediate medical emergency or when disclosure is otherwise required by state law.
- No written record of the results of this verbal screening are kept with information that identifies any individual student.
- Screening results will not be put with any other information that identifies any child. Screening results will not be included in your child’s school record.
- Results of the screening will not result in disciplinary action.
Althing personnel will be at the school on Tuesday, November 8th and Wednesday, November 9th. This opportunity will be for students in grades 7-12.
