Academic Calendar Changes

Academic Calendar:

At a special board meeting held on Monday, March 4th.  The Grand Meadow School board approved changes to the school calendar.  These changes were made to recover instructional time due to the numerous days lost due to weather related cancellations.  Letters were mailed to all families.  A copy of the letter can be found here.   There are two parts to the calendar change.

1. From March 11th – March 29th the school day will go from 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM.  The warning bell will be at 7:55 AM. Classes start at 8:00 AM.  Pre-school – Grade 4 will dismiss at 3:25 PM.  Grades 5-12 will dismiss at 3:30 PM.  Morning bus schedules will stay the same.  We are anticipating the buses to leave school around 3:40 PM, so after school routines will need to be adjusted by 30 minutes.  Grades 5-12 will be on an AB schedule for the 15 days from 3:05 to 3:30.  Meaning that the students will go back to first and second hour to receive instruction or class time to work on assignments

2. April 1st was a faculty work day.  April 1st will now be an instructional day for all students in Preschool through grade 12.  April 22nd was a holiday  for students and faculty.  It will now be a work day for faculty. Students still have the day off.

The district realizes the changes to the calendar may affect plans for some families.  That is ok.  Please communicate with the school on how these changes may affect your schedules.  It is the districts intent to be flexible, yet work hard to give students a quality education.  The other key piece of information which goes along with the change to the calendar is that the district and faculty do not feel that adding days to the end of the school year are as effective as making adjustments during the school year.

Students will be made aware of the calendar changes on Tuesday, March 5th.  If you have any questions regarding the calendar changes, please contact Mr. Besel or Mr. Schwarz.
