Distance Learning Grades 5-12

Plan for Block Scheduling for Grades 5-12

**Teachers will be communicating their specific plans via email, phone call, or infinite campus.**

Our purpose: We envision that on days when school is canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic or some other State Mandated Closure, students and teachers will utilize developmentally appropriate resources to communicate and engage in distance learning experiences that are related to current classroom curriculum goals and skills. The MN Department of Education defines distance learning as the following: “Students engaging in distance learning have access to appropriate educational materials and receive daily interaction with their licensed teacher(s).”  Our Distance Learning Plan is not the same as our E-Learning Days (used for Snow Days). Students are expected to be online each day, interacting with their teacher, and engaging in learning. Classes will be aligned to the MN Standards. Instruction will be different and assessments will be different than an e- learning day.

Distance learning days activities will:

? provide appropriate 5-12 level daily instruction (based on schedule below)

? consist of activities that are best suited to the resources that are available for students at home

? utilize online, virtual, and phone conference as the platform for instruction

We will use an A/B schedule. Each student will have two live sessions per week for each class, either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday. Those "classes" will be about 30 minutes and no longer than 45 minutes long. Friday has no "classes" scheduled and is dedicated for teachers to make individual contacts with students, especially those who are not keeping up on things. Paraprofessionals and administrative assistants will do “check-ins” along with teachers on non-instructional days.

CALENDAR: We will follow our current school master calendar moving forward. Quarter 4 will start on March 30 when distance learning starts. Easter Break will be April 10-14. All students in Quads and Quarter classes will follow their 4th quarter schedule.
