Distance Learning Update-March 29

Sunday, March 29th – 2020

Parent and Students,

We are about to embark on a journey none of us envisioned as we started the 2019-2020 school year.  Distance learning is going to be a new adventure for all of us.  I can guarantee there will be issues with this model of instruction.  Everyone at the school has been working extremely hard to figure out ways to make this work.   It will be ok to get frustrated and overwhelmed-after all it has been almost two weeks since students have had any formal education and everyone is going to be a little bit rusty getting started again.  Our goal is to reconnect and get things started slowly to help everyone get routines, expectations and instruction worked out.   It will not be seamless and there will be issues- we just need to work through them with empathy and grace

What is not ok is to get angry.    Communicating with your child(ren)’s teacher is the most effective way to learn and understand what they are trying to offer as an educational option for your child’s academic growth.  Communication needs to be in a manner that shares concerns and successes in a proactive and tactful way to work together to help make this process be as successful as possible.

Thank You to all of you that came to the school on Friday to pick up packets.  It was great to see many of you as you patiently waited your turn to get materials.  I would also like to offer an apology to those of you who waited only to find out your child's work was posted on the district and teacher's web page.  We try hard to offer good communication and in this case there was some confusion.

We miss the students at the school so much and cannot wait for the day when we can open the doors again and welcome them back.  In the meantime, we can and will get through this unexpected detour during the 2019-2020 school year.

Educationally,

Paul W. Besel

Superintendent/PK-4 Principal
